Special notes regarding Insurance Cover of your trophies :
Your cargo has been insured for the duration of the transit journey from Africa to its final destination. The policy is a TRANSIT insurance i.e. covering All Risks of physical loss or damage which may arise during the course of the transit in terms of the internationally recognized Institute Cargo Clauses (A) or (Air) as applicable.
This transit policy does not cover existing damage or discrepancies or damages to the hides etc as a result of the Hunt and in no case will the insurance cover loss or damage as a result of insufficient or unsuitable packing; Inherent Vice such as insect damage or mildew or rotting of skins.
The suggested Insurance Cover per specie in each shipment does NOT Include a replacement hunt.
In the unfortunate incident of a claim, we would like you to make use of the following guidelines in order to file a successful claim :
YOU ONLY HAVE 7 DAYS AFTER ARRIVAL THAT YOU HAVE SIGNED FOR YOUR SHIPMENT IN ORDER TO CLAIM AGAINST INSURANCE COVER.
*** For fully Mounted trophies that do not need to go to a Taxidermy or Fur Dresser ***
Upon arrival / delivery of your trophies ALWAYS check your crate for any damage to the outside of the crate. PLEASE endorse the paperwork that you sign for delivery of your crate with a detailed damage report, time and date as well as the person who has noticed the damage. You must retain a copy of the delivery note for yourself, which will be your proof that you have noticed the damage and duly reported it. If at all possible, take immediate pictures and make a note of the local transport company’s details who effected the delivery to your door.
Unpack your crate carefully and then write down a detailed report on any damage INSIDE the crate to the trophies. If and where possible, please take pictures of the damage and list everything that is damaged.
Once this is done PLEASE report it to us IMMEDIATELY. You can contact us at the following numbers :
TEL # + 27 11 979 4036
FAX # +27 11 979 2810
E-Mail : pte@telkomsa.net
Once you have reported the damage to us, we will immediately let the Insurance company know and they will lodge an immediate claim and give you a claim number.
The next step is to contact a minimum of 2 local taxidermists for repair costs to the damaged trophies. Once you have these quotes, you MUST keep ALL ORIGINAL quotes and documents, as we will need to give these original documents to our underwriters in order to effect insurance claim payments.
Last but not least, we will require all your banking details in order to make payment directly to yourself, the hunter.
*** For dip & ship trophies going to a Taxidermy or Fur Dresser ***
All of the above apply, but it would be very effective it your Taxidermy or Fur Dresser can check your crate and contents of your crate immediately upon arrival.
The onus however, is on the hunter to inform his Taxidermy or Fur Dresser to please make sure that they do NOT sign for any damaged crate(s) that are delivered to them. They must also make a detailed note on the delivery paperwork by the local transporter who will deliver the trophies to their facilities.
We know that sometimes the trophies are only further processed some time after delivery to these taxidermists and fur dressers, that is why it is of UTMOST IMPORTANCE, that they obtain a good receipt of all shipments.
Kindly ask them to inform you when the trophies arrive if all has been well received. If not, please let them make a detailed report and pictures where possible of any damage.
PLEASE report it to us IMMEDIATELY. You can contact us at the following numbers :
TEL # + 27 11 979 4036
FAX # +27 11 979 2810
E-Mail : pte@telkomsa.net
In this instance, your trophies are already with a taxidermist or fur dresser of your choice and we kindly request that they please provide you with a repair cost quote and make sure the ORIGINAL is sent to you.
All the ORIGINAL documents, e.g. the Original delivery report signed for by the Taxidermist or Fur dresser as well as any quotes obtained for repairs, will be required here in South Africa in order to effect any claim payments.
As per our previous advice, we must also have your banking details as the underwriters will only make payments to the owner of the trophies.
*** FOR TOTAL DAMAGED TROPHIES – CANNOT BE REPAIRED ***
We would like to advise that in the event of TOTAL damage, beyond repair, the Insurance Cover will only pay out what the suggested cover was for that specific specie. For instance, your shipment contained a Waterbuck, Warthog & Buffalo. The total insurance cover for all 3 species was for US$ 10,000-00 but only the Buffalo was damaged, then the Insurance company can only pay out damages on the Buffalo, that the suggested value was proposed at e.g. US$ 4500-00.
There are also alternatives for replacements of such completely damaged items, but these can be discussed on a shipment to shipment basis.
VERY IMPORTANT :
PLEASE report any damages / discrepancies IMMEDIATELY.
Pictures speak louder than words, so if possible, please take pictures of any damages to your shipment.
ALWAYS retain ORIGINAL documents, such as Delivery notes, Quotes by the Taxidermists and YOUR detailed Damage report. All of these will be required in South Africa in order to effect payment to countries out side of South Africa.
We sincerely hope that you will never have to file a claim and we would like to assure you that we will transport your trophies to their destination as best we can with reputable airlines and steam ship lines.
Yours Sincerely,
Ms. Roelien Vermaak
